Michal SAGAR

Michal Sagar est directrice du Département d’Arts Visuels de la « Breck School » à Minneapolis, Minnesota. Elle a obtenu un baccalauréat en Beaux Arts du « San Francisco of Art Institute », ainsi qu’une maîtrise en Beaux Arts du « Minneapolis College of Art and Design ». Ses œuvres ont été exposées dans les galeries et les musées sur tout le territoire américain. Son exposition à l’Espace Acanthe est sa première exposition internationale.

Michal Sagar a pris un congé sabbatique en 2008/2009 pendant lequel elle a reçu le prix du « Breck Upper School Faculté Chair for Personal Involvement and Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring ». Elle s’est consacrée durant cette année à la création, inspirée par La Convivencia, terme utilisé pour décrire la période de l’histoire de l’Espagne comprise entre 711 et 1492, quand les Musulmans, les Chrétiens et les Juifs vivaient en paix, où les idées culturelles s’échangeaient et les diverses religions étaient respectées.

Aujourd’hui, cette exposition prolonge le développement de ce thème ; Michal Sagar a approfondi les interactions complexes entre les différents peuples du Moyen-Orient et les racines de leur héritage partagé.

Michal Sagar is the Visual Arts Department Head at Breck School in Minneapolis, MN. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute and her Masters of Fine Arts from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries and museums nationwide across the United State. This show at l’Espace Acanthe is her first international exhibit.

Michal was on sabbatical for the 2008-2009 school year and was awarded the Breck Upper School Faculty Chair for Personal Involvement and Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring. She spent the year working creatively as an artist, focusing on art inspired by la Convivencia, a term that describes the coexistence of Jews, Muslims and Christians in Andalucia from 711-1492 A.D.

This current exhibition continues this theme, exploring the complex interrelationship amongst the disparate people from the Middle East and the roots of their joined heritage.
